The post box activity originated as a means of providing a storage cubby hole for the children. It then developed as a craft idea and was used to aid the arrival of Santa letters.
“This craft was great fun. It helped develop fine motor skills, creativity, free choice, learning colours and an awareness of letter recognition as the children’s initials were on each post box. The post boxes are a great way to send newsletters or notes home as the children check their own post boxes which creates independence and gives them a little bit of responsibility. In February we used the post boxes to deliver a love letter to our friend for Valentine’s Day. This was to promote love and kindness. It was lovely to see the look on the children’s faces when they saw a card from their friend. They were able to pick what friend and what they wanted to say in the card which allowed for emotional and social development”, Danielle Nash, Manager Kilfinane Community Play School.
